WASHINGTON (SBG) – Boarded up windows and vacant store fronts. It’s neighborhoods like this that President Trump is vowing to improve.
The president this week created by executive order “opportunity zones.”
The program will offer big tax breaks to developers who invest in low-income areas in cities across the country.
It also directs thirteen federal agencies to work together to help low-income and impoverished communities rebuild.
The program is headed by Department of Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson.

“All the areas are selected by the governors of these particle states in consultation with their constituents and they know which are the are the areas and what needs to be done.”
While many hope this will help, the zones have come under criticism from consumer advocates who warn they may not drive investment to truly distressed areas.
