Some groups in Park Falls plan to try to capitalize on a unique federal tax incentive program. The Park Falls Area Community Development Corporation and area Chamber of Commerce already had a plan to educate people on a fairly new tax benefit program, one that will help create opportunity in the area. “It’s a very unfortunate thing,” said Park Falls Chamber of Commerce Director Edward Kane.Kane says the Shopko closing will be a big hit for the community. Bablick says Park Falls is one of the only places in the Northwoods classified as an opportunity zone. With both Park Falls Shopko and Sears Hometown stores set to close in the near future, Bablick believes the opportunity zone program could be a game changer. On Wednesday, Bablick and Kane will host a presentation about what an opportunity zone is, and how people can take advantage of it in Park Falls. The “Opportunity Park Falls” event will be held at the Park Falls library at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
