BUCYRUS – Business and community leaders listened to a decidedly upbeat series of reports on the local economy Thursday morning at the Business and Industry Forecast Breakfast. The first featured speaker, Jenny Saunders, president of FCBank, described 2019 as a “Steady as she goes year.” Unemployment remains low, Saunders observed – Crawford County currently has a 5.9 percent unemployment rate. “Opportunity zones are designed to spur economic development by providing tax benefits to investors,” Frankhouse said. The final speaker, Jim Spreng, principal of Spreng Capital Management, echoed Saunders’ optimism. “The economy is doing incredibly well,” he said. Unemployment is low, inflation is low, interest rates are still historically low.
